Marathons for Mum

London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
This April I will finally be running the London Marathon. Last October I took part in the virtual marathon which was a fantastic experience and achievement. By taking part in these races I’ve been able to raise over £2500 for ARUK and now I’m hoping to reach £3000 by race day.
I have wanted to run the London Marathon for a long time now and having turned 40 at the end of last year,, it seemed like the perfect time to go for it. Reaching a milestone birthday and undertaking such a big challenge always has me thinking of times & events that mum has missed in my life since she died in 2013. Mum/Penny was an amazing person (see her lovely photo) and she had a rare condition called corticobasal degeneration. This affected her talking, swallowing and ability to move, and she became unable to care for herself. For someone who was always caring for others, singing, and constantly on the move, this disease took so much from her and us.
I hope that the time and effort that I put into my training are all worth it if I can raise as much money as possible for ARUK and their research into dementia. Thank you for visiting this page and if you can support with any donations, I would be so, so grateful. Also if you have any memories of mum that you would like to share, then please feel free.
