Story

Welcome to my JustGiving page! I'll be running the Manchester Marathon on 16th April in aid of Brain Tumour research, a charity supporting a cause that is very close to my heart. At time of writing this, the furthest I have ever run is 10 miles, so please give my story a read and donate if you can as any support to get me over that finishing line will be greatly appreciated!

My Story

When I was 16 my life was turned upside down when I found out I had a brain tumour. I'd been experiencing spells of dizziness and nausea for a couple of months but had thought nothing of them as I seemed to be perfectly fit and healthy. Then, one evening I was rushed to hospital after having a seizure. I remember feeling terrified as I had no idea what had happened, and was so afraid that I was going to have another seizure. The next few days were a blur, with endless blood tests, MRI scans, EEGs and appointments. It turned out that I had a brain tumour, which was causing the strange feelings I now knew were actually seizures. The diagnosis came as a huge shock to both me and my family, and in August 2016 I underwent surgery to remove the tumour. Thankfully, the surgery was successful and although I eventually made a full recovery, I struggled initially with post-op depression and coming to terms with what happened.  I remember feeling completely alone and thinking that nobody could understand how I felt or what I was going through. Looking back, this was definitely one of the toughest times in my life so far, but I am so thankful that I am here today and can live a normal life.

Not everyone is as lucky as me. Survival rates for brain tumours are poor and treatment options can be limited. I've chosen to support Brain Tumour Research as their mission is to increase the much needed investment into this devastating disease. Thank you for taking the time to read my story, I really appreciate it and would be very grateful for any donations.
