Story
I myself am autistic and I am organising an event for Autism Awareness Day on the 1st April. I think raising awareness is important because I think there is a lot of misinformation about autism and very few people have a good understanding. And people misunderstanding my autism has had a big effect on me over the years. I am finally in a place where I feel like staff do understand me better. On the day I will be doing a presentation to all the staff and patients about autism and how it affects me, which should help understanding further. This presentation is being filmed by the Cygnet marketing team.
All proceeds from the day will go to the National Autistic Society. They are a charity who run specialist schools and residential settings, campaign to improve the rights of autistic people and offer training to allow companies to become more autism friendly. They also run a number of helplines for autistic people and their families and lots more. These are very important services that make a big difference to the lives of autistic people.
To raise money I am making crafts to sell (I am crocheting and making artwork) and we are having a cake sale as well as a raffle.
Thank you in advance for any donations,
Flo
