Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

During May, I have set myself the challenge to run 11.2km a day (which is the distance from my house in Galashiels to the Borders General Hospital Junction sign and back) - in total this will be 347.2km over the course of the month, whilst conforming to the lockdown rules.

The reason behind fundraising for 'Friends of Borders General Hospital' is because during the end of March through to April, I contracted Covid-19. I experienced all the symptoms, however was still able to breath well enough by myself, so didn't go to hospital and waited out the symptoms for 26 days at home. During this frightening period that I experienced, nurses on NHS111 supported me, as well as having consultations over the phone with doctors from the BGH. Additionally, I was overwhelmed by the support of my friends and colleagues in the Borders, as well as family and friends out with. As the Borders has been my home for the past 4 years, I want to give back to my local community and support both patients and staff at the BGH, as they did so for me.

I have always been a keen runner, and was meant to be running the Edinburgh Marathon 10km race on the 23rd of May (which is now postponed to September). Running just shy of 350km in total this May will be a challenge, as my fitness levels have depleted whilst being in quarantine with Covid-19. Nonetheless, each day I am getting stronger and hope to complete this challenge  with your support, no matter how big or small the donation.
