We provide a helpline, and webchat service to help prevent suicide in the UK

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Last year the whole business ran/jogged/walked the 10k in Lincoln & Bristol! We raised over £2000 as a result for CALM!

In 2019 we continue to find weird and wonderful things we can do to raise money for CALM, a charity close to our hearts.

CALM is a national charity that is dedicated to preventing male suicide in the UK. In 2015 75% of all suicides were male. Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged under 45. On average, 12 men take their own life every day.

These facts are shocking, but they portray the reality of male suicide in the UK.

What do CALM do?

  • CALM provides a helpline and webchat that gives anyone who needs it the chance to talk about their problems to professional staff, who offer support, information, and help in finding specialist services.
  • CALM challenges the culture that a man asking for help is somehow less of a man. They aim to show that being silent isn’t being strong and are active in pushing for change to improve suicide prevention policies and practices.
  • CALM supports those bereaved by suicide, ensuring that everyone affected by suicide is offered and receives appropriate support in a timely manner.

The Impact of CALM

  • More than 250 suicides are prevented each year. They receive an average of 5,000 calls to the helpline per month.
  • They have seen a threefold increase in public awareness of male suicide rates in the last 10 years.

How could your donation help CALM?

  • £7 can pay for one phone call that could save someone’s life
  • £23 pays for someone to take calls for an hour
  • £80 pays for the CALM website for a day
  • £160 keeps one phoneline on from 5pm to midnight for an evening
  • £1,200 runs the entire helpline for an evening, allowing CALM to take nearly 200 calls a night

Any donations you could give would be much appreciated by
both us and CALM, and could go a long way towards saving someone’s life.
