With National Walking Month and Mental Health Awareness Week coming up in May 2021 we thought this would be the perfect opportunity for FMC Global Talent to raise money for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). This mental health charity is very close to home for a number of our employees, and we want to continue the incredible work CALM has achieve over the last year. If the last year hasn’t been hard enough as it is, people being isolated, CALM is there when it feels like others aren’t.

What do CALM do?

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM run a free and confidential helpline and webchat 7 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone who needs to talk about life's problems.

They aim to show that being silent isn’t being strong and are active in pushing for change to improve suicide prevention policies and practices. CALM supports those bereaved by suicide, ensuring that everyone affected by suicide is offered and receives appropriate support in a timely manner.

The Impact of CALM
675+ suicides were prevented by calm in 2018. They receive an average of 10,000+ calls to the helpline per month. Over 50+ suicides are prevented every month by CALM's helpline and webchat.

£8 enables CALM to answer one potentially life-saving call
£24 provides support materials to 4 families who have lost someone to suicide
£109 equips a volunteer with vital training and ongoing support to spread the CALM message across the UK
£440 trains and equips a professional helpline worker to speak to people in crisis
£1,200 runs the entire helpline for an evening, allowing CALM to take nearly 200 calls a night
