Home-Start Bridge Walk · 5 July 2023 ·

Home-Start Camden & Islington provides non-judgmental practical and emotional support to parents who are struggling, disadvantaged or vulnerable. Trained peer supporters visit parents at home and work with them for as long as support is needed, helping to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing.

Story

We support some of the most disadvantaged and hard to reach local families who are caring for children under 5. For over 27 years, we have been there for  these families who have nowhere else to turn, with no other means of support. Our supported families are incredibly resilient and welcome our volunteers into their home to help make sure that their children are getting the best start in life, whatever their circumstances. Our parents might be coping with their or their child’s physical or emotional ill health; living in temporary or inappropriate accommodation; surviving domestic abuse; being trafficked or a victim of modern slavery; having no recourse to public funds or coping with poverty or high levels of debt. In 2021 and 2022, no matter what our families’ situations were, almost all of them said their biggest challenge was feeling scared, alone and overwhelmed. Our volunteers are there for them through all of this.

We are walking over 7 bridges in central London to raise £2,000 to buy emergency supermarket vouchers for our families. This is how we ensure that every family has food on the table, even on the worst days.
