For those who know me well, you'll know that running is not exactly my forte... but you'll also probably know that I am rather stubborn and not one to take things lying down!
After Mums diagnosis of Lewy Bodies Dementia in late 2018, our family has been on a rollercoaster of emotions trying to help Mum with a condition that is wildly unpredictable with a seemingly endless list of symptoms from tremors and muscle rigidity, to difficulties with swallowing and digestion, memory loss and hallucinations.
What we also quickly realised was how much research was still needed to properly understand, treat and ultimately prevent Lewy Bodies.
With 1 in 3 of us predicted to be affected by dementia in our lifetime and the first signs of disease beginning in the brain decades before symptoms appear... research is key...
Alzheimer's Research UK are the UK’s leading dementia research charity and have invested in over 1000 projects across all forms of dementia since 1998.
And so... rather than running away... I have pledged to run 100km before the end of August as part of their Running Down Dementia campaign.
Maybe I'll end up loving it like Forest Gump... maybe I won't, but I promise to keep running until I reach my goal and any donations (however small) would be much appreciated. Please spread the word and keep your fingercrossed for me!
