Pendleside Hospice believes in nurturing and caring for those in our local community affected by advancing long term and life limiting illness, through to end of life care and bereavement, by providing a range of comprehensive and easily accessible services to support them on their journey.

Story

On 17th November 2014 we were given the devastating news that a large tumour had been found on Colins liver. After his first chemotherapy treatment in January 2015, complications meant that he was suddenly very poorly very quickly. Colin came back home to Pendle to live with and be cared for by his family. It was at this time we called upon the services of Pendleside Hospice. They were amazing from the offset, the range of services they offer not just for the patient but for the whole family is beyond compare. Its due to the services of Pendleside, their amazing staff, the angelic hospice at home nurse and our strengthened family bonds that we have the strength to carry on. We honestly wouldn’t have been able to get through the 26 months that we were blessed to share with my Dad without them. They provided all the support we asked for and even that which we didn’t know we needed to make the, at times gut-wrenching, but nonetheless treasured time we were gifted, as love and fun filled, and memory making as it could possibly be.

Colin lived his life dedicated to helping others, he was a long standing Borough Councillor, County Councillor, the only Councillor to be twice Mayor of the Borough, he served in the Trade Union movement and raised funds for charitiy. His most important role however was that of Dad, Grandad and Brother to Eleanor and Glyn. Anyone who ever came across him will remember that legendary smile and amazing, if at times inappropriate, sense of humour. Loosing him left us with a pain we have to learn to live with every day of our lives and a great chasm in the hearts of those he left behind.

In memory of her wonderful brother, 71 year old Eleanor will make the 120 mile journey to Burnley to take part in the 10k charity run to raise funds for Pendleside Hospice who rely solely on funds from us, the public. Please donate anything you can every single penny counts xx
