Well we did it!!
Last Sunday the rain kept away, and around 100 of us were at Sandwell Valley for the Moz 5km. There were a few 'proper' runners; those of us determined to jog it; the jog/ walkers, and then various children, buggies etc. We set to it and did it!!
Shaun ran all but the second punishing hill, and Diane 'power walked' the lot- coming in at about 40 and 50 mins- not bad for a Sunday morning! It was very satisfying and also very moving to see how many people had been touched by Stu- and wanted to honour his memory. As we sweated after the race there was talk of this being an annual event- possibly held around Stu's birthday. So just under a year to train for the next one!! His work (Sandwell Council) also want to create an award in Stu's name- for employees who go above and beyond- again such a testament of his lasting effect on them.
Diane- who gained a sore ankle when training, but pushed through the pain, has been limping all week- a trip to A & E confirmed a pulled muscle (I knew my body was not built for exercise!!)- what a trooper eh!
We can't thank all of you who have donated enough. We never dreamed we'd raise this amount of money- it really has been amazing. It has not only helped to fund this charity- which can provide a little light for people who are experiencing very dark times, but it has helped us in feeling something worthwhile is happening, and we have seen what amazing people we have around us, in this difficult time.
It is just over 3 months since Stu died, and there's not an hour he's not thought of. Thankyou all so much for helping us to honour Stu's memory- this money raised will make a real difference.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The Willow Foundation helped Stu and his wife and young child to have a holiday in Scotland in January 2009, which gave them some special time together away from the treatment and the stresses of living with cancer.
This time provides valuable memories for Emma and Brody to treasure since Stu passed away in April aged 36.
On Sunday 2nd August 2009 we are having a 5 km fun run at Sandwell Valley to raise money for The Willow Foundation.
The Willow Foundation is the only charity of its kind providing special days for 16 to 40 year olds. Special days aim to provide young adults living with life-threatening conditions a chance to escape the pressures of their daily routine and share quality time with family and/or friends.
Every special day is of the young person's choosing - it could involve fulfilling a lifelong dream or it could simply offer an opportunity to bring some much needed normality back into their lives.
The Foundation will endeavour to fulfil the special day request however imaginative and, if possible, exceed expectations.
