Boston and London marathon double, for the animals

London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
Edit 26/04:
Anyone that follows me on Facebook knows I screwed up. I made an error in the application for London, and as a result I don't have a place. I'm utterly gutted, personally, and for this fundraising effort. However, on Sunday, I will still run the route of the marathon, in Animal Equality colours. Just I'll be starting at 4am. It's not quite what I wanted, but honestly it'll probably be harder. A 4am self supported marathon is going to be pretty damn brutal anyway you look at it. To everyone that donated, thank you. If you want the donation returned on the basis of the above, that's cool too. But I promise I'll be putting myself through this still.
Edit 16/04 : On Monday April 15th I ran the Boston marathon. I won't lie, it gave me a right kicking. I was in a pretty bad way 10 miles out from the finish and it didn't get much better. It made it so much better knowing that there was a decent reason behind this though. I knew that Eddie and Sitty in their last days probably had pain in all their joints, and what I was going through was a small fraction of what all these beautiful beings experience every day. I run because they can’t, and when it hurts, I know that we hurt the same, whatever language we speak. So please. Give some cash. Eat a vegan meal. Do anything to help out just one of these animals.

No one thinks me running a marathon (or two) is particularly impressive. Ot getting through nearly 40 years on this pale blue dot of a world... But it gets you to this page at least, so thank you for clicking the link.
Most of you reading this will know I’m pretty passionate about animal rights. I probably also sometimes give the impression that the only way you can make a difference to the lives of animals is to go vegan.
That’s only partly true... Not eating, or using animal products, is hard. I understand that.
Not because there aren't plenty of alternatives, not because it’s not better for you and the planet; but because we live in a world where it’s normalised.
Nobody thinks factory farming is good, and everyone knows animals suffer in that system. So what can you do? Well here’s one thing. You can donate to a charity with a proven track record in helping to reduce suffering. Animal Equality is consistently evaluated by ACE as a highly effective organisation. They make a difference to a problem that is large in scale, and crucially, solvable. See below for some links regarding both the work of Animal Equality and the principles of effective altruism it adheres to, but let me state it very clearly.
You give money to Animal Equality and less animals in the world will suffer.
You don’t have to go vegan. You don’t have to wear faux leather jackets. You don’t have to find cruelty free cosmetics. If you want to, brilliant. But if you don’t, or can’t, but do want to do something?
Click the button. Give some cash. Save some animals.
But if you can't give anything, you can still do something amazing for me: please take one meal where you would have eaten a chicken, a fish, or anything from an animal... Just one meal... And then... don't.
Don't eat it. Abstain once, and give one animal (and me) that gift. Honestly, I think that might be more meaningful.
