Story
Our beautiful friend Angie has recently been diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
Linda S, Angie and I have grown up together and have been very close friends for 50- odd years (but who's counting!). Linda C, was a tad late to the party and joined our friendship group only 40-ish years ago! Sadly, in April 2019 after experiencing some mobility issues, Angie and her family received the devastating diagnosis of MND. Since then many tears have been cried, much cake eaten and countless gins drank. We feel now is the time to do something that we hope can go some way to helping Angie, and anyone else suffering from this awful condition. Angie has asked that 50% of all donations will be used by the Tyne and Wear MND society to support local people and the remaining 50% to be used nationally.
We are walking a 50 mile section of the spectacular Hadrian's wall in Northumberland; from Birdoswald to Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Our walking adventure was originally to begin on Sunday 5th April, sadly covid 19 got in the way of that. We now have a revised schedule and we begin our journey on Monday the 10th of August. Helping make this possible will be our "logistics co-ordinator" John, who will be in charge of tent erection and much-needed sustenance and refreshments.
We would be so grateful for any donations we receive for our challenge, and we would also love it if you could join us for part of our walk or bring along some hot food and maybe even a hot water bottle at the end of the day to keep us cosy in our sleeping bags (a foot massage won't go amiss either....). Frankly, a gaggle of middle aged women with walking poles, tackling mud, hills and the Northumbrian weather will need all the support and encouragement they can muster to push through this challenging walk.
