The South Downs Way Challenge · 27 July 2019

The Youth Counselling Project offer specialist counselling to students in primary and secondary education. All our therapists work in a non-judgemental, accepting and positive way to help young people realise a more productive and happier future.

Story

On the 27th/28th of July 2019 Adam and I are attempting to run/trek the South Downs Way which stretches 100 miles from Eastbourne to Winchester in under 30 hours. It would usually take anything from 6-10 days. We are doing this to raise money and awareness for the charity The Youth Counselling Project who help children with mental health.

In the UK, 80,000 children and young people suffer from severe depression, 8,000 of them are under ten years old.

The number of cases of children being admitted to hospital with self-harm has dramatically risen by 70% in the past ten years.

The Youth Counselling Project has been set up to provide counselling in schools in response to the growing number of children suffering from
low mood, anxiety and self-harm.

The Youth Counselling Project strongly believe that by giving a young person the space to talk to a trained professional they can understand themselves better, see their future potential more clearly and have greater self-esteem. With this better understanding of themselves they are less likely to suffer from anxiety, low mood and self-harm.

The Youth Counselling Project encourages young people to take ownership of their counselling sessions. We approach each session in a non-judgemental and accepting way encouraging each client to gain greater self-value and belief in themselves to become adults living a more positive and fulfilled future.
