Leif Cocks Central Borneo Tour 2023 · 6 February 2023 to 13 February 2023 ·

Working to save entire, intact, functioning ecosystems for all wildlife and humanity. The original mission was expanded to include actions to protect Sumatran tigers, Sumatran elephants and indigenous communities who fall outside the protective umbrella of our orangutan conservation initiatives.

Story

Life on this planet is a truly miraculous development over hundreds of millions of years, and it's our responsibility, one of our purposes in life, to make sure that life continues on earth.  Each plant and animal has gone through incredible evolution and we need to protect them from irresponsibly powerful businesses and other human activities that are making them extinct.

The rainforests and jungles in Indonesia and Malaysia represent merely 1% of earth's land, but are home to about 12% of all plant and animal species, including endangered rhinos, tigers, and orangutans.

Instead of trying to ask vaguely for generic help saving the planet, it makes more sense to focus on a single tangible, urgent, and achievable goal: Save the orangutan. The orangutan is under significant threat due to palm oil plantations, illegal logging, climate change, human conflict and the wildlife trade. They desperately need our help. If we don’t act now, they are likely to become extinct in the next 10-15 years. And by saving the orangutan, we also preserve thousands of other plant and animal species that are found nowhere else in the world. We save them for our grandchildren and their grandchildren. Your donation will go to protect the habitat of the orangutans, including the dipterocarp trees which are also home to almost 1,000 different species of insects! My wife and I are paying our own way (not through this fundraising) to visit these jungles and are looking forward to seeing the orangutans more than the insects...  So please donate what you can to help preserve 12% of the earth's plant and animal species.
