Story
I know times are very hard for everyone right now including myself, however, I am maintaining a positive outlook and feeling inspired by our Barcelona friend Zach Washington-Young to raise money for The Rooprai Spinal Trust, choosing to swim 2km in open water around the Balearic island of Formentera on 26th of September.
Zach’s story is pretty amazing, the happy go lucky Liverpudlian and huge music fan sadly suffered a severed spinal cord injury at just 22 years old after returning home from a music festival whilst on an event coach that crashed. He was told he would never walk again. The last eight years have been an incredible story of his mental strength; Zach is now not only walking again, but he has become the world’s 1st to walk the London Marathon with a severed SCI, climbed Mount Snowdon and is swimming incredibly well, developing for team GB. Coming up to his 30th Birthday this summer, Ravers2Swimmers have Zach as a talismanic leader and inspiration to the team - you can check his Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/zach_wy/
A few local friends from Barcelona have signed up for the swim, but Rag Satgurunathan and I are raising money for Zach’s spinal trust, so if you are able to help in any way support their incredible work - it would mean a lot.
Please don’t feel obliged, especially if you are very hard up during these difficult times, but anything you can contribute (even just a couple of quid instead of a coffee one day that’s totally OK) will continue their ability to help people with SCI on their journey to walk again.
