Ipswich Half Marathon 2022 · 23 October 2022 ·
On Wednesday 6th January 2021 my 18 year old sister
Megan Day suffered a sudden Pulmonary Embolism (a
blood clot in the lung) at her home in Essex and subsequently passed away at Colchester Hospital later that evening,
despite the best efforts from her Parents, Colin & Amanda Day, the East of
England Ambulance Service and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, since that day
our lives have never been the same.
Megan was the light in all of our lives, an amazingly
caring a beautifully kind-hearted young woman, who loved photography and the
beauty of life in general, she was the the auntie to my two children and is
sorely missed by all of her family & friends. Since her passing I personally
have suffered badly with my mental health, running (and a bit of counselling)
has helped me massively, and I’ve wanted to do an event in her memory and raise
awareness of Thrombosis UK, hopefully we can help to try and reduce the amount
of families that have to go through what we have.
I’ve chosen to run the Ipswich Half Marathon on the 11th
September 2022 (CANCELLED, I ran an alternative route instead), New date for Ipswich is now 23rd October 2022, so I'm running twice!
Thrombosis is the formation of potentially deadly
blood clots. Blood clots can form in the artery (arterial
thrombosis) or vein (venous
thrombosis). Blood clots in the arteries cause heart attacks
and strokes. Blood clots in the veins can lead to death due to breaking off and
blocking the blood supply to the lungs:
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is when blood clots in a deep vein (most often the leg)
Pulmonary embolism (PE) occurs
when a blood clot breaks loose and travels to the lungs
Collectively, DVT and PE are known venous
thromboembolism - VTE.
Our Mission:
Our priority is for everyone
to KNOW the Risks Signs & Symptoms of VTE and to support research to extend
UNDERSTANDING into the PREVENTION and BEST MANAGEMENT of VTE.
