Suicide Awareness - 3 Peaks Challenge
Team: No Peak Too Steep

3 Peaks · 26 June 2021
Every 90 minutes someone is lost through suicide in the UK. The suicide rate for men in England and Wales in 2019 was the highest for two decades with middle aged me more likely to die by suicide than any other group. The rate for women is equally concerning, being the highest since 2004.
Essentially this means the very sad reality is that most people will have been touched by suicide in some form or another. Whether it be from personal mental health struggles, or through a close or more distant loss, we all know, or know of, someone who has felt so desperate they have either attempted to, or indeed have taken their own life. And with the impact of the pandemic taking a huge toll on people’s mental wellbeing, concern for those struggling is even greater.
Suicide Prevention Bristol (SPB) is a leading suicide prevention charity that helps anyone with thoughts of suicide via telephone, social media and out in the community. The team of volunteers patrol known hotspots in Bristol to talk to people and help anyone that may be looking to end their life. They use their skills in crisis intervention to help people, whoever they are and whatever their situation by offering supportive listening to start a dialogue and to encourage more helpful solutions than suicide. SPB relies on public donations to be able to continue the lifesaving work they do preventing suicides in Bristol. They make no profit and rely solely on volunteers.
Suicide is something close to all our hearts and as such we really wanted to do something that would raise vital funds for this incredible charity, whilst at the same time challenging ourselves personally. So in June 2021 Matt, Leah, Tash, Laura, Ash, Sarah, Tom, Andy and Dan (Driver) will embark upon the National Three Peaks Challenge. We will endeavour to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon mountains within a 24 hour period. We will share our journey from start to finish, including preparation and training through to ascent and summit. We will share it all, the blood, sweat and tears; the good, the bad and the ugly!
In return we would be incredibly grateful if you could please support us in our challenge by donating whatever you can. We realise that these are tough times for so many right now but even the smallest donation will go a long way and every single penny that we raise will go directly into saving lives.
Through this challenge and with your support we want to show people that there really is no peak too steep and that with the right help and support there is always another way.
Thank you.
