My beautiful and brave mum was diagnosed with Stage IV Ovarian Cancer in November 2018 and died from this awful disease on 26th June 2019.

I knew very little about this type of cancer  before the journey we went through with my mums illness.

What I now know is that:

1.In the majority of cases, Ovarian Cancer is not diagnosed until the cancer is at an advanced stage and it is therefore referred to as the 'Silent Killer'. 

2. The symptoms of Ovarian Cancer are often attributed to other less serious conditions (e.g. My mum was booked in  to have a hernia operation, only to find out that she actually had advanced cancer !) 

3. There  is not enough awareness of Ovarian Cancer generally with both potential sufferers and doctors,  all of which contributes to diagnosis happening at a very late stage.

4. Both doctors and patients need to be better educated about the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer.

5.Testing for an accurate diagnosis needs to improve, so that  more cases can be diagnosed at an early stage and therefore improve the chances of effective treatment and survival rates. 

I want to help support Target Ovarian by raising vital funds to support the work that they are doing to increase survival rates from Ovarian Cancer. 

Running 5km is very out of  my comfort zone but I have been training hard and am determined to do something positive in my mum Gill's name to commemorate her bravery and to help fight Ovarian Cancer !
