Testicular Cancer Awareness Using the Power of Football. CHECK YOURSELF!

Fran Mathers is raising money for Movember

CHECK YOURSELF - Testicular Cancer Awareness · 3 April 2021

Movember has built a global men’s health movement, funding over 1,300 projects, changing the way health services reach and support men. Movember is taking on 3 of the biggest issues facing men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide. Movember is for everyone, not just for men.

Story

A good friend, team mate, fellow coach and all round diamond Lyndon Taylor has recently managed to thankfully overcome Testicular Cancer thanks to getting himself checked out.

Testicular cancer usually can be cured if it is detected and treated early. However, this cancer can spread silently and quickly. This means that some men will not be diagnosed until the disease is in an advanced stage.

Lyndon had surgery and treatment. Thankfully he is looking forward once again.

It got me really thinking - if he hadn't got himself checked what could have happened?

How many of us out there actually bother to check regularly?

How many of us actually think it will never happen to us?

My aim is to try and raise awareness of Testicular Cancer by using the power of football and it's communities to see if we can raise a few pennies for Movember. If we can then that can only be a good thing...

I hope this little push encourages people out there to actually check themselves, donate or even just to reflect and talk about it.

Our fathers, partners, brothers and friends are facing a health crisis, yet it’s rarely talked about. Men are dying too young. We can’t afford to stay silent. We are the leading charity changing the face of men’s health. We know what works for men – and what doesn’t. Prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention – we’re taking them all on. Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, and shaking up men’s health research.
