Story
Hello and thanks for reading this.
I have been involved with the Minster for about two years. I started as a volunteer steward as a way to enjoy the building, meet people and give something back to the community.
The minster is visited and enjoyed by thousands of people every year. Unlike York and other big churches, we do not charge an entrance fee. We do this because we want everyone to be able to enjoy this magnificent space.
The minster was built quickly in one phase after a fire destroyed the medieval church. Because of this, many elements are decaying at the same time and it requires a lot of money to maintain it.
The resident fundraiser has done a fabulous job in securing grants, awards and raising money. Now it's my turn to do something for this astounding building which is the jewel in Doncaster's crown.
A small band of volunteers ensure that the minster is open and can be visited by people from across the world. This group of people care passionately about the building and its history, as do I.
That is why I have forgone alcohol, cheese, meat and all the things I hold dear to my heart (and stomach). Instead of going out on the razz, I've been in the park doing squats. Instead of lying in, I've been hitting the weights. I've replaced vino tinto with mucho sprinto.
I'm not going to lie: training for this has been HARD!
Please give as much as you can to help give this incredibly important monument a future. It enriches the lives of so many and offers sanctuary to those in need. It would be a terrible shame for the local and wider community if it were to crumble.
All donations will be gratefully received. Thank you!
