Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving Page! Even though I hate running (really hate running), I have decided to throw myself in at the deep end and do the Great North Run 2016, and, in short, this is why...

As many of you will know, I was diagnosed as having type 1 diabetes after Christmas 2014. Since then, my life seems to revolve around finger pricking, low carb food and several insulin injections a day. Although I have so far been managing my diabetes well, it is a life consuming illness (some days easier than others), that many people don't really understand. Unfortunately type 1 diabetes has affected my immediate family for nearly 20 years, with my brother also being diabetic from a very young age; trying to keep a small child away from sweets and having to give him injections several times a day is no easy feat! - and that's just the beginning. It is so important to have a charity like Diabetes UK out there, for normal families like ours to have access to support and information.

Diabetes UK offers support to many people struggling with this illness, type 1 and 2, providing a vast amount of information on anything and everything diabetes related. They also fund research into managing and preventing diabetes, with a lot of exciting breakthroughs happening at the minute.
