We did it - we reached the summit ... the Roof of Africa ... on September 22nd. Awesome trek, tough but I'm so glad I took the challenge, phenomenal people and team and above all, amazing sponsors and support. THANK YOU

It’s official: I’m mad.
The evidence: I am trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro this September. Why you ask? Not just because it’s there but for three real reasons: I love calderas and volcanoes and they don’t get better than Kili; I wanted a challenge to be proud of and that would help me shift the unsightly ‘post-retirement’ weight gain; and, above all, I want to raise serious money for Penny Brohn Cancer Care – a wonderful charity that helps people living with and beyond cancer. You may know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer … a friend, family member, yourself … cancer touches so many lives. Being diagnosed with cancer can be a traumatic and life-changing event. Shock, anger, fear, uncertainty – these are just some of the emotions people feel and that’s before the intensity and stress of the medical treatment. But the good news is that more and more people are surviving cancer. Penny Brohn Cancer Care helps change the way people live with cancer. All our services follow the Bristol Approach (developed by us) and are offered free of charge. The Bristol Approach is a unique combination of physical, emotional and spiritual support using complementary therapies and self-help techniques. Working alongside conventional medical treatment, this unique whole-person approach gives people the practical tools necessary to live well with, and beyond cancer. The NHS recognises the need for such support and we expect to play a growing role in the wider 'survivorship' agenda. We offer our support nationally via a range of residential and day courses in a beautiful, healing building near Bristol. I am the chair of Trustees of Penny Brohn Cancer Care and have seen first-hand the hugely positive effect we can have with people in deep distress. Our vision is simple: that anyone affected by cancer can access life changing complementary cancer care. But this vision needs funding. We rely exclusively on voluntary income and it costs over £2m to run our services every year. 2010 is the 30th Anniversary of Penny Brohn Cancer Care and an intrepid band of Trustees and Supporters will climb Kilimanjaro to raise money for our vital services. Please give generously, your donations will directly and positively impact on the lives of people living with and beyond cancer. Thank you so much for supporting me._________________________________________
