Story
I have a serious sweet tooth! So this year I'm giving up chocolate for 46 days to raise money to help save hens from slaughter. Please sponsor me! I've got two lovely little hens in my back garden who cheer me up daily with their antics, from harassing our cat to persistently pecking at the back window in the search for food, they are the most delightful little girls who would have ended up in the slaughter house if not for the BHWT.
Last year the charity had its most successful year to date, re-homing more than 70,000 hens over 12,000 adoptions. We also continued our campaign work to encourage shoppers to buy free range eggs, and make sure the eggs in their processed foods were free range too. But our work doesn't stop there. This year we'll be working on ways to improve veterinary knowledge when it comes to treating pet hens as well starting work on the UK's first dedicated hen welfare and education centre. It's all to ensure our feathered friends enjoy a free range future.
