In 2020 I discovered that I had the BRCA2 mutation, a genetic mutation which means my chance of developing some types of cancer (e.g. breast, ovarian, pancreatic) is higher than the average person. For this reason, I will be undergoing a risk-reducing double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction in the future, which is just one of the ways in which BRCA will impact upon my life.
