Hello everyone. Myeloma UK work this year has suffered a double-blow as many staple elements of fund raising have been curtailed due to Covid restrictions (e.g., London to Paris bike ride). At the same time we need to respond to a very high demand for support from Myeloma patients who are extremely vulnerable to Covid infection. For many of these patients it is an unenviable choice: carry on with treatment and accept a higher risk of a Covid infection or suspend treatment and risk the Myeloma gets outs of control. Helping patients and families understand and weigh these choices has put considerable extra stress on Myeloma UK.

Alongside these specific day-to-day demands, Myeloma UK must fund on-going programmes in patient advocacy, for example to make new often expensive emerging drugs accessible on the NHS,  to continue to sponsor Myeloma training for health care professionals and advancing new research efforts such as in the field of genomics. 

To fill some of the Covid related financing shortfall Myeloma UK has launched a number of new initiatives that have realised so far some £280,000 of replacement income.  Work continues to secure further new sources of replacement income.
