Fundraising for King's College Hospital Charity
In 2019 I suffered a cardiac arrest while out running - a cardiac arrest caused by a heart attack, the rarest kind no less, go me! The odds of surviving such an event are extremely, catastrophically slim. That I survived is due to a combination of spectacular luck (long story but was given CPR on the scene by a passing NHS doctor) and then the incredible care I received in the Critical Care Unit at Kings College Hospital here in South London. After leaving hospital the aftercare from the cardiology department has been fantastic and it's thanks to the team at the Cardiac Rehab Unit that I was able to overcome my fears and get back out running (apparently it is actually good for you).Over the pandemic the Kings' Critical Care Unit has featured regularly in the media and has become a byword for courage and grace under pressure. Despite being at the centre of a national crisis, the whole time the hospital has been there for all our more mundane needs, whether a routine heart check up or arriving in A&E with a kid’s sports injury, just the same as they are every day for the whole of our community. And every time you’re met with the same calm competence and good humour. So three years later I think it's well overdue for me to give something back to show my thanks to the NHS and the incredible team at Kings. Thats why on April 3rd I’m running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for the Kings College Hospital Charity and I’m asking you to help me and give something - anything! - to this cause quite literally close to my heart.Thank you
Frank
