Each year at Franklands we support a different local charity, by having dress down days, cake sales, raffles etc.

This year our charity is the Maria Hanson Foundation and the Me & Dee charity.  Maria came to our office at the beginning of the year so that we could meet her and find out more about the Me & Dee charity.  Maria herself has an emotional story to tell, but instead of feeling sorry for herself she has instead set up the Me & Dee charity to help others, by arranging  holidays at Mablethorpe for families and their loved ones, to create very special memories when time is short and precious.

The Me & Dee charity offer sea side breaks in a luxury 6 berth caravans, with a private sea front beach hut and memory box.  Every attempt is made to cover the individual needs of each family, including specialist medical equipment, carers and nurses.

There are 2 caravans, one is called Daz’s Den and this is used to provide seaside holidays to armed forces personnel with physical and emotional injuries.  The other caravan is called Dee’s Den which is used by families who are living with a life limiting condition to go and make some special memories.  Maria makes the time they have left together as special as possible.

Maria is truly an amazing, self-less lady who inspired us to want to do something bigger to help raise funds for the Me & Dee charity and when someone in the office suggested we do a charity walk from Derby to Mablethorpe there was 7 of us that were prepared to take up the challenge.  A few practice walks were done before we committed ourselves to the challenge, but the thought of Maria and what she does for others did
make the odd blister seem like nothing.

So on the morning of Friday the 8^th September 2017 we will leave our office in Derby and make our way to Newark where we will spend the first night, on Saturday the 9^th September 2017 we then plan to get to Tetford with the final leg to Mablethorpe (and a dip in the sea) on Sunday the 10^th September 2017.
