Dragon boat paddling has been proven to increase the health and well-being of cancer patients, helping recovery from the after effects of treatment. The support of fellow paddlers who are literally and metaphorically “in the same boat” is an aid to physical and mental recovery.

Story

As you know Petra and I are big on water sports. There is an amazing dragon boat crew of cancer survivors in Edinburgh: Port Edgar Dragons. Dragon boating is a sport with proven benefits for a better recovery after the cancer treatment, and it is also a team sport with many benefits for mental health.

We are supporting this dragon boat crew, sharing our paddle, helming and drumming skills. Unfortunately, our knowledge and skill is not all the club needs. Running the boat costs money - safety equipment needs to be replaced occasionally, the boat has to be stored in a container which has to be rented, etc.

Therefore, we decided to raise money for the crew. We aim at contributing towards Port Edgar Dragons functioning for another year. If the club is up and running, those in or after cancer treatment will be able to join in, if they so wish, and thus benefit from an affordable sport activity, team spirit, the outdoor environment etc.

Update: Thank you all for your support! I have uploaded a photo from the finish line.
