Simpsons Special Care Babies (SSCB) is a small volunteer-run charity based in Edinburgh and dedicated to the care of premature or sick newborn babies in the Simpson Neonatal Unit at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Most of our trustees have had a child (or children) looked after in the Unit

Story

Who are the seagulls?

If you'd ever seen our children gathered round a picnic table when the snacks are brought out you'd understand. Seagulls grew out of a group of mums with snack devouring toddlers and the nickname of their WhatsApp group.

It wouldn't occur to dads' to make pals so thanks to our wifes' and some cajoling we found a great group. Seagulls cycling club is a grandiose name for four dad's of varying fitness levels who needed a challenge.

Why Simpsons Special Care Babies

Simpsons is special for Team Seagulls and we are riding to support them, support families.

SSBC's primary objective is to support the specialist care that the wonderful staff of the Simpson Neonatal Unit provide to babies born prematurely or sick.

It's just one lap around Loch Ness

This seemed a lot easier when we signed up 😊😊!

Preparing for the étape has been a good challenge. I didn't even have a bike when I signed up. Looking back at my teammate's group chat before I signed up, I see that this was billed as a lot easier than it will be. But, getting ready is proving to be fun and with the warmer weather, we are now getting out as a team rather than riding indoors on a trainer.

106km and a big hill is going to be a bit of a challenge certainly a bigger one than I was lead to believe when they got me to sign up.

Whose idea was this?

"Only one lap...of loch Ness." they said"

It's a stunning route." they said

@⁨Fraser Thompson⁩ I know the other boys ride but it is absolutely in your ability. Cycling is social and accessible. It's a Sunday middle-aged pub tour... except substitute with flatwhites.
