Story

I'm going to be taking on the world's most famous 26.2 miles on Sunday 23 April for The Brain Tumour Charity. Bring on the London Marathon 2023!  Those who know me well will not put me down as much of a runner and so what better challenge to embark on to raise money for a cause very close to my heart Angel Child, set up by my dear friends Ed and Lucinda Bartlam.

Ed and Lucinda very sadly lost their son Alfie in 2019, who was aged 7, to a rare form of brain cancer after a 3 year battle.  Alf is also my godson.  He was a complete inspiration to everyone through his various treatments, which included three 8+ hour operations, over 90 general anaesthetics and two courses of radiotherapy.  Ed and Lucinda continue to be inspirational parents too!

Ed and Lucinda have set up Angel Child to fundraise on behalf of The Brain Tumour Charity to help fund pioneering research into paediatric brain tumour treatments, including for a class of aggressive tumour called ependymoma which is what Alfie was diagnosed with in 2016.  Unbeknownst to many, brain tumours are the biggest causes of death from cancer for children and young adults under 40.  Funding for pioneering research, treatments and cures today could not be more vital.  This major research project is based at the Cancer Research UK’s Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence in Cambridge under the leadership of Professor Richard Gilbertson, one of the leading paediatric neuro-oncology clinicians in the world and the current Director of the Cambridge Cancer Centre at Cambridge University.

Angel Child has committed to raising £1.4M by 2025 to support Professor Gilbertson in a project that has a very real chance of finding tangible treatments and cures for children’s brain tumours.  Your donation will go specifically to this research project which is genuinely exciting.

By running for The Brain Tumour Charity I'm playing a part in The Charity's movement to defeat brain tumours sooner - by moving faster and further to find a cure. #ACureCantWait.

Thank you so much for your support
