London Marathon 2023 · 23 April 2023 ·

Our Sussex disability charity – The Bevern Trust – ensures that people with profound disabilities can live truly active and fulfilling lives, in a home where they can feel safe, are loved and are offered compassionate care. The Bevern Trust — started with a care home founded by parents, from Sussex, in 1999. This movement was in response to concerns at the lack of facilities for young people with complex needs. It aimed to provide a home for young people for as long as they choose to live there. The Trust was formed by two parents groups who worked together and combined their resources. The parent groups continue their work in their locality, within Sussex, and Trustees are appointed with a particular focus and responsibility for their local project. With a Christian ethos we were founded by and uphold Christian values that demonstrate that everyone has the right to live their life in abundance. Now we provide 24 hour care for 11 people who live with us full time.

Story

On April 23rd I will be tackling the London Marathon as the first in what I hope to be a number of challenges. I’ve recently become obsessed with running again forcing myself to get into by ordering far too much kit. Over the coming few months I will be putting myself through a thorough training regime in order to get fit and hopefully run as close to or quicker than a 3 hour 15 minute marathon. I’ve even given up the fags for the very purpose so most of you who know me will know that it’s not going to be easy.

I am absolutely thrilled to be running for The Bevern Trust, a charity dedicated to those with profound disabilities by offering care and the opportunity to get more out of life. The charity provides 24 hour care to eleven residents offering numerous activities from hydrotherapy in the pool to gardening and music therapy. Over the Christmas period residents at The Bevern Trust participated in a number of activities such as going to the Pantomime and the bowling league.

For The Bevern Trust, a minibus is more than just a set of wheels – it’s the vehicle that helps provide freedom, adventure and opportunity for the eleven profoundly disabled residents of Bevern View.

A wheelchair accessible minibus is a vital resource to enable the Bevern View residents to access essential services and appointments, visit friends and family or go on trips to local attractions and parks.

I’d love you to join with me to help raise funds to provide this amazing resource for Bevern.  You can make a real difference in helping these residents have more from life!

With a final target of £50,000, your support in sponsoring my marathon run will be so valuable.  Thank you!
