Story
Coral reefs are among the most biologically diverse ecosystems on earth. Therefore, not dissimilarly to the rain forests, they are invaluable sources for medicine research.
However, the mystique and beauty of the largely unknown biodiversity of the coral reefs attract a lot tourism, which threatens its existence. Tourism and pollution are today main factors for the destructions of those reefs.
Therefore, I and 20 others are going on an expedition with DUCK to the distant waters of the Philippines with the goal to aid the conservation-process of their coral reefs. The DUCK expedition is supervised by Coral Cay, in which we will (1) dive and map the biodiversity of unexplored parts of the coral reefs and (2) educate the local community about diving and about the coral reefs to create local engagement and reduce poverty (which again reduces their dependency on the coral reefs).
The data we collect will be compiled into a report by Coral Cay and then be presented to the Philippine authorities, which can redirect tourism and hinder pollution in especially vulnerable areas.
All funds raised through this web-page will go to Coral Cay and does not cover my personal expenses of the expedition.
Any amount given is highly appreciated!
Thanks
Fredrik
