Good news/bad news from Anne and Janet.
The bad news is that stormy weather prevented Janet and Anne from completing their free fall for Uprising Day.
The good news is that they remain undaunted and are determined to take the plunge before the end of March. This means (the best news) you have an extra 21 days to support these daft women in their noble endeavour. And encourage friends and family to do the same.
A reminder of why you should:
March 10th is the anniversary of the brutally repressed 1959 uprising in Tibet which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Tibetans and the exile of the Dalai Lama. Free Tibet Campaign staffers Anne Holmes and Janet Fereday are marking the anniversary of the uprising with a free fall jump out of a plane.
Since China invaded Tibet in 1950, the Tibetan people - their religious beliefs, their culture, their very language - have been under constant attack. Torture of political prisoners is commonplace. Monks and nuns are compelled to attend "patriotic re-education" sessions during which they are forced to denounce their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. Traditional nomads are forcibly resettled in cities where they have no survival skills. As the Chinese authorities strip mine Tibet's natural resources and the huge influx of Han Chinese immigrants prosper, Tibetans themselves are marginalised in their own country.
If you believe China's lies about Tibet should be exposed, that China's illegal occupation of Tibet must end and that the Tibetan people should be free to decide their own future, please sponsor this event.
Alternatively, if you've ever thought you would pay good money for someone to shove Anne Holmes or Janet Fereday out of a plane, here's your chance.
Whatever your motivation, please give generously. These two daft women are terrified. Please make this worth their while.
