French Roofing Services Limited from Sutton Valence has entered a team from its staff to ride from London to Brighton on 11th September 2022. We are looking for sponsorship from our suppliers, customers and friends to support Kent Cancer Trust in its mission to make a difference to cancer care in Kent.

Sponsorship proceeds from this event will help to raise money to support a clinical project that aims to reduce the risk of infection in patients who rely on feeding tubes for their regular nutrition. Biofilm grows on the tubing used in this process and is liable to cause a range of infections. Some 2,000 cancer patients in Kent are fed this way each year so any reduction in infection here could make a real improvement for the patients concerned.

Kent Cancer Trust has already helped fund a project that has revolutionised the treatment of throat cancer patients who have had their larynx removed and replaced with a prosthesis. Because of biofilm growth, the prosthesis previously required replacement every two to three weeks. Replacement is still required with the new treatment protocol, but now only every six months! The feeding tube project builds on the knowledge gained from this earlier project.

The University of Kent scientific team, with its partner team from Kent Hospitals is quietly confident that learnings from an earlier project described below will lead to a successful outcome.
