Story
So I've finally plucked up the courage to sign up for the Brighton Half Marathon in support of RISE who are a local Brighton charity very close to my heart. They do some absolutely incredible work to support families who have been subject to domestic abuse.
A shocking 1 in 4 women will be affected by domestic abuse at some point in their life, and RISE offer a local domestic abuse helpline as well as refuge accommodation and counselling & support services for women, children and LGBTQ+ people experiencing domestic abuse.
Without going into the details, sadly this is something that relates closely to my family and in their honour I'm running this for the strongest women I know - my amazing mum and beautiful little sister. We've been lucky enough to escape it, come out the other side and it's us three against the world so I know they will get me through to that finish line!
My training journey kicked-off in November (with a little break over Christmas) so January has been mostly getting back into the swing of it all and I finally managed to hit the 10 miles mark on Sunday 26th January so I'm on track to complete it!
Anything you can donate will be hugely appreciated and below are some examples of how your donations can help:
- £5 could help towards buying art materials for a play therapy session for a child traumatised by abuse.
- £20 could go towards a child’s school uniform and equipment to help them into a new, safer, life.
- £50 could help pay for a RISE Helpline worker for half a day.
Thank you for taking the time to read my just-giving page and to support RISE!
