Friends aim to provide amenities to support the social recuperation of all ages that have to stay in the wards either before or following treatment. Funds are raised over and above the NHS provision to provide patient comforts, which help to make time spent in hospital better for all. Big Thankyou

Story

The Friends of the Royal London Hospital were established in November 1979.

Members of the Friends are drawn from past and present hospital staff and members of the local community who are dedicated to improving amenities for hospital patients and staff.  For example, an ECG machine was provided for the Outpatient Department, a year's cleaning and upkeep of a fish tank was funded for the children's ward, leather sofas were purchased to provide a TV seating area for patients on the cardiac ward and for the forthcoming year, entertainment and magic shows are being provided for the children's wards.

The Friends of the Royal London Hospital have a mobile shop which runs 4 to 5 sessions a week and sells confectionery, drinks and toiletries to patients on the wards.  The mobile trolley shop is staffed by volunteers who are either students, retired or unemployed people.  When volunteers visit the wards they not only sell goods to patients but may also have a short chat with them to bring some cheer into the Ward.

The Friends have a membership of over 300 who pay an annual subscription.  Some of whom form the Committee who meet every two months to discuss fund-raising events and decide how the funds are spent.

The Friends are always grateful to receive donations no matter how small or great as all the money goes to help provide a better environment and amenities for our patients.

We have 8 runners representing us in The British London 10k Run on Sunday 6 July 2008.  We will be most grateful for anyone who would like to sponsor our runners and help us raise as much money as possible so that we can continue our work in providing facilities and amenities for the patients of the Royal London Hospital.

Barts and the London’s £1, 000, 000, 000 new hospitals program is set to transform healthcare facilities locally.  Once complete, the redevelopment will create new world-class hospitals at both The Royal London Hospital and Barts, in the city, together with The London Chest Hospital in Bethnal Green.

The photos on the left show an artist impression of the new towers and the Square at the Royal London Hospital.

The entire redevelopment of both hospitals is expected to be completed in 2015 but mostly facilities at The Royal London Hospital should be operational early in 2012.  The Friends will continue to raise funds to provide facilities and amenities in the new hospital.

The Friends are always grateful to receive donations no matter how small or great as all money goes to help to provide a better environment and amenities for outpatients.  Please support us in our work and send your donations.

Thank you, we appreciate your support.
