Friends Triathlon · 20 August 2016

We work in the townships of Port Elizabeth, South Africa and in the UK, raising awareness and funds to support projects under three criteria: nutrition, education & enterprise. Within the UK the focus of our work is in schools and sending containers of resources to South Africa.

Story

I set this as my 40th Birthday challenge to myself!  I am going to be taking on an Ironman distance triathlon; this is made up of a 3.8km swim, 180 km cycle and a 40km marathon run.  This event in itself is a challenge but I have decided not to do a commercial event but plan the event locally making use of our amazing environment.  I will be swimming in the River Teign, riding around the edge of Dartmoor and running along the coast to Exeter and back.  How long will it take – up to 16 hours continuous exercise depending on how it goes!  I am doing it with some
friends who have committed to completing parts of it to supporting me – very
few seem to be signing up for the whole thing!

Calabash Trust and Huckleberry Foundation are charities which I helped to set up and their cause drives me in so much I do.  RNLI is an amazing charity and living on the coast is a real life line to all water users.

Training for this around work, family life and my other commitments has been a challenge in itself with early starts and some long boring pool sessions and lonely runs to get the training in.
