Story
Chris Thorold was left heartbroken when on an ordinary Friday in January his wife and son were involved as pedestrians in a tragic road accident. Louis Thorold, aged five months old, died instantly in the accident. I remember standing in our kitchen when my wife Klaske, a colleague and friend of Chris, received the news via telephone. Our hearts immediately filled with sadness. Our son Julius was born only a few weeks after his mate Louis. The idea that such a tragedy could even occur seemed unimaginable.
Meanwhile the accident left Rachael Thorold fighting for her life. The catastrophic injuries had left Rachael in a coma. We kept hoping for a full recovery. We were over the moon when we learned that Rachael had touched Chris his hand in a sign of consciousness. In the weeks that followed we have been in full awe about the miracle of her recovery. From Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge to a rehabilitation centre in London and finally back home in May.
Nobody should have to worry when their loved ones are out and about. No parents should fear when pushing their child’s pram along a pavement. That is why it is important that action is taken. The Louis Thorold Foundation was created with a vision to reduce infant pedestrian road deaths to zero. Its mission is to promote advancement of road safety through research and investment. I wholeheartedly support this cause. On 12th September 2021 I will run my first ever marathon in the wonderful city of Brighton. Via JustGiving I would like to raise funds for the Louis Thorold Foundation.
I’m running for Louis and I'm grateful for your support.
