Bude Sea Pool Channel Challenge · 6 October 2018
Some ideas won’t go away. When I read that the Bude Sea Pool does
a Channel Swim Challenge for teams of two or more, I thought "That’d be fun, swimming 22 miles!"
Happily Edward Wild agreed, and so we are going to be swimming in relay a little over 35,000 metres around the magnificent Bude Sea Pool.
It’ll take 11 hours constant swimming, sunrise to sunset.
I hadn’t swum more than a mile in a session in over 30 years, and I’d never swum more than two miles. This is my marathon.
Ed Wild is a very accomplished swimmer in his own right and Torridgeside Swimming Team coach, but neither of us are in any doubt of the scale of this endeavour!
Ed and I would like to put this mad escapade to good use and are looking for donations for a cause that is close to or hearts. We’re both cabinet makers that trained at Rowden Atelier about ten years ago and have stayed close to the South West coast ever since.
We would like to raise money for Trees For The Future .
They put it best:
The Forest Garden Program is a simple, replicable and scalable approach with proven success. By planting specific types of fast-growing trees, fruit trees, hardwoods and food crops in a systematic manner over a four year period, families can positively change their lives forever. Forest Gardens consist of thousands of trees that provide families with sustainable food sources, livestock feed, products to sell, fuel wood and a significant increase in their annual income just a few years.
Because they work with volunteers and distribute seeds, rather than trees, their costs per tree are amazingly low. A £10 donation will
lead to the planting of at least 100 tree seeds. Amazing!!
They even have a calculator that will calculate how many trees would make you carbon neutral.
We believe this is a fantastic cause that combines carbon reduction with benefits to some of the hardest hit communities around the world.
We hope this has inspired you to donate, and encourage you to visit their site if you have the chance.
And wish us luck !!
