During the COVID-19 outbreak, St John is actively supporting ambulance services, hospitals and communities to protect life and health through this worrying and uncertain period.

Story

St John Ambulance are helping the NHS during this pandemic and working tirelessly to stop the spread of COVID-19. Donation is our their income and funding so help us help everyone! This is a non-profit organisation which means all the money goes to saving lives! They provide many young people and adults with basic medical training along with many other skills which can be extremely helpful for these people providing both short-term and long-term benefits.

One of these skills includes communication and helping those with disabilities. A disability that I would especially like to help is hearing impairments. Although these types of disability are not as life-threatening as others, it is estimated that by 2050 over 900 million people – or one in every ten people – will have disabling hearing loss and the lack of support for those affected by hearing loss is a major issue in society. Also, I would like to raise money for another communication issue; selective mutism. Selective mutism is a severe anxiety disorder where a person is unable to speak in certain social situations, such as with classmates at school or to relatives. This can have a huge negative impact on a child’s life – which is where the issue is seen the most. If a child is welcomed to a social activity such as first aid training within St John, they have the potential to overcome this anxiety disorder. They can do this with the help of our supportive youth leaders and system of care in St John ambulance. Wouldn’t you like to be the cause of a child overcoming their struggles which can lead to help hundreds more people like themselves? Well, by donating, you are supporting this worthy cause!

I will show live-streams and during these videos I will only communicate by sign language which I will be learning in the videos to help inspire people to learn sign language. These videos include learning basic first aid and other medical skills and knowledge. If I succeed, hopefully, this will inspire you to donate to St John ambulance and help save lives.
