Story
Our wonderful Dad/Dadcu lived with Prostate Cancer for over 23 years, living a full life for the majority of that time, gracefully navigating his way through its complications towards the end.
He was lucky enough to be enrolled on clinical trials which meant regular diagnostics and close observations by caring, compassionate and skilful clinical teams. His care involved numerous treatments, each new one prompted by the waning potency of the previous, until there were no more treatments to try. Sadly, he passed away at the end of February this year, leaving a huge hole in the lives of his family and friends. I miss him terribly and will always remember the love he had for us all.
When he was first diagnosed and treated , I organised a number of charity bike rides around Wales to raise awareness and desperately needed funds. The rides were always with friends, fun and ultimately manageable. Having witnessed and experienced first hand the tireless efforts of charities and clinical teams to research new treatments and care for patients like Dad I knew I needed to complete a greater challenge. A half marathon may seem like a walk in the park for some but for me, a middle aged, flat footed, inflexible man who had never run further than a mile, it is significant. Having started training in April I’ve had numerous injuries which has stalled my progress and I don’t know if I’ll be able to run the whole distance, but no matter what, I know I’ll cross that finish line. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
