Story
Every 3 seconds, someone in the world dies of sepsis.
In August of 2023 - aged 16 I was taken into MK hospital with back pain after being sick for a few days. Quickly I was diagnosed and treated for sepsis which at this point was at a critically high level.
Still, I am receiving treatment for a rare kidney condition which has resulted in several bouts of illness. I have been under observation since August 2023 and a year on am still having regular checkups. However I’m glad that this was my outcome.
Without this swift diagnosis I could’ve faced a very different outcome. Globally, sepsis claims 11 million lives each year and a quick diagnosis stops these deaths. I was further inspired to fundraise for the Sepsis trust after hearing the story of Martha Mills who died in 2021 after doctors failed to properly treat this case. With your help thousands of people will be correctly diagnosed and treated for sepsis and will make a full recovery.
Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis. Which is why in October I will be running my first half marathon at the age of 17.Fundraising raises awareness, and sparks the question: “What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms. It also funds our vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing our Support Group network. We also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.
