Story
Hi, Im D, Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving Page, please read Why I am Raising Awareness and much needed funds for Thurrock Young Carers.
I am 1 of the 1 in 5 Young Carer's in the U.K.
I am fortunate enough to have the support of Thurrock Young Carers who help guide me through the personal challenges of my role as a Young Carer. Every year around Young Carer's Awareness day (now known as Young Carers Action Day) I do my best to raise awareness and some funds to do my part and try to give back to this amazing charity so that it can continue to support children like myself for many years to come. Last year I was able to do a cake sale at my school, this was very successful but due to Covid-19 this year I have been forced to try something new and go digital.
Thurrock Young Carers are a non-profit organisation who support Young Carer's throughout Thurrock by providing advice, information and support for young people who care for someone in their family. Whether you care for your mum, dad, sister, grandparent, or brother like me, they are here to provide help when you need it. Young carers are children between the ages of 8-18 who help look after a member of the family who is sick, disabled or has mental health problems, or is misusing drugs or alcohol. Their day to day responsibilities often include:
- cooking
- cleaning
- shopping
- providing nursing and personal care
- giving emotional support.
With so many adult responsibilities, young carers often miss out on opportunities that other children have to play and learn. Many struggle educationally and are often bullied for being ‘different’. They can become isolated, with no relief from the pressures at home, and no chance to enjoy a normal childhood. Many young people don't even realise they that they are a Young Carer.
The Thurrock Young Carers Projects support children across Thurrock in lots of different ways, such as:
- having time out from your caring role.
- opportunities to meet other young people with similar stories so you don't feel so isolated.
- u can join fellow young carers in your area on positive and fun activities and trips.
- they can help you talk to your school, so they have a better understanding of your caring role and offer extra support if needed.
- access to 1:1 support with a Young Carers Support Worker
- You can chat to them via social media or text messages
- Have access to training / workshop programmes to gain new skills
- Plan for your future.
- Help with transition from school to work / college or university
- and much more
£ 5.00 - pays for emergency telephone support to 6 Young Carers in crisis.
£ 20.00 - will support a Young Carer in crisis with a home visit or one to one.
£ 35.00 - funds a tutor to spend an hour with 6 young carers
£ 200.00 - will provide a fun respite activity for 10 young carers
Please help me ensure that other young carers like me can continue to access this much needed support and services so that we have the same childhood opportunities and ability to thrive as our peers.
