Vinnie's Urgent Vet Care · 1 July 2016

Gables Dogs and Cats Home is a non-euthanasia rescue and rehoming centre that has been caring for the regions unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats since 1907. We totally rely on public support and donations as we receive no Government or other funding.

Story

Gables Farm Dogs’ & Cats’ Home has recently taken in a 6 year old French Bulldog called ‘Vinnie’.

‘Vinnie’ was signed over to Gables Farm when his owner could no longer keep him. Since arriving at the Home it has been discovered that ‘Vinnie’ has many health problems and will require extensive treatment and surgery before he can be rehomed.

‘Vinnie’ will need to be castrated, vaccinated and have a dental. He requires surgery to widen his nasal passages to enable him to breathe more easily. He will have to have surgery on his eyes to correct very painful entropion, which causes the eyelashes to rub against the eye ball. He is currently having daily ear treatment for a long standing ear infection which will also require surgery.  He will also have exploratory x-rays on his legs to discover why he collapses when walking on slopes.

Deputy Manager Ruth Rickard said: “When Vinnie arrived with us he was very nervous but he is coming out of his shell now and he has a fantastic personality. It is such a shame that he has been living for all these years with many painful health problems that have been undiagnosed. We are glad that he is now able to look forward to a positive pain free future.”

It is estimated that it will cost the Home in excess of £700 to treat all of his health problems and ensure that he can live the rest of his life pain free.

The Home has a non-euthanasia policy and never gives up hope of finding a new home for a dog or cat. They will do whatever they can to find a home for an animal; this includes behavioural and veterinary care. All of the animals have a full health check when they arrive at the Home. They are also neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for fleas and worms.

If Gables Farm is lucky enough to raise more money than is needed it will go into general funds for the other animals.
