The charity helps to reduce extreme poverty in the rural areas by increasing the productivity of working horses and donkeys through welfare and management training. It provides basic veterinary assistance, teaches in schools and to farmers groups, and provides scholarships for paravets at college level.

Story

In October 2011 two Suffolk-based vets, Pat Sells & Laura Heaps, will be driving a 4x4 from the UK to the Gambia Horse and Donkey Clinic in Sambel Kunda, Western Africa. The vehicle is sorely needed by the clinic to continue its important work providing free veterinary care to local villages and markets.

After driving nearly 4,000 miles, they will deliver the vehicle and much needed veterinary supplies to the clinic. The following months will be spent working as volunteer vets and collecting much needed samples to investigate the myriad of tropical diseases affecting animals there.

The vehicle, of course will remain at the clinic in perpetuity as an essential tool in delivering help to the animals that need it.

Vetericyn have backed the trip as primary sponsors, providing funds to help the campaign, as well as a huge shipment of their prize-winning wound product, Vetericyn VF spray. A huge thanks to them and to the secondary sponsors, namely Veterinary Endoscopy Services, Boehringer Ingelheim, Tutavet, Elanco and Rossdales.
