Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running the Cambridge Half Marathon this year in support of the Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre. You might be thinking 'but Gary's not a runner?' and I would have to agree - but for such an important cause, I feel it's worth getting off the couch between those Six Nations matches and start clocking the kilometres.
This charity was set up in 1982 by a small group of local women as a response to a growing awareness of the sexual violence that far too many women and girls face. Whilst awareness continues to grow, it remains that 1 in 5 women has experienced some form of sexual violence by the age of 16 (!!).
CRCC has a crucial mission within Cambridgeshire: to provide a safe space and high quality support to women and girls who have experienced, or are experiencing any form of sexual violence, as well as to raise awareness and train individuals and organisations on issues surrounding sexual violence.
Your donations can help in the following ways:
- £5 can buy a self-care bag to help prepare and support survivors through giving evidence in court.
- £10 could pay for modelling dough, clay and stickers for a girl’s play therapy session.
- £20 will give an information pack to three survivors, helping to provide them with clear, practical advice and details.
- £50 enables a woman to access a one-to-one counselling session to help them recover from the impact of sexual violence.
- £100 helps to recruit more volunteers for the listening support services and provide them with the specialist training they need to help and support survivors.
