Story

Manchester to Blackpool Charity Ride - Team: Beech Boys 2020

Update: Well it happened! We got COVIDed. The poor team at Bike Events were not able to secure the route for the race due to the changing nature of the lockdown restrictions across many parts of the route, and have unfortunately had to cancel it for this year. However following all the very kind donations to the Christie, inspired by Ol, the Beech Boys will be riding anyway and have decided on a route around Cheshire which will start and finish on Beech Road. It will be 65 miler to allow to take in a few local landmarks. Pictures to follow.

Thank you to all of those who have sponsored us so far and to those who will go onto sponsor us. Whilst it will not be the same ride we did last year with the big man, we will be covering the same distance and making several stops to take time to remember him and take on board the obligatory snacks plus a few drams of a "special" drink which he was quite fond of! Well, when I say fond.....

Thank you again on behalf of all the Beech Boys team.

Original Post: So last year a group of friends from Beech Road rode the Blackpool to Manchester to raise finds the amazing Christie Hospital and in support of our friend, Oliver, who at the time had just finished another round of treatment.

To those who knew Ol, he was no slouch at this sort of thing even when he was undergoing treatment. On that sunny day in July, he took his time and steadily pushed on and we had a marvellous day, many snack stops and raised a good wedge of cash as well.

We were blown away by the generosity shown and we collectively raised or £1500!!

Little did we know that several months later, his condition would unexpectedly worsen and due to complications, eventually take him at Christmas.

At his funeral, to further celebrate the great man, we vowed to ride again.

However, over the last few months, it was uncertain that we would get the chance this year due to the current situation, but the good news arrived and we are a go. We will be riding the circa 100km course on the 13th of September, 2020.

I understand that times have been tough for many, and things continue to be but if you can spare a few quid, it will help us to carry on where we left off last year raising money for this organisation that is fighting to end this kind of story happening in the future.

Beech Boys 2020 Riders: Phil, Paul, Julian, Matthew, Kristof and myself.

Thank you very much for any donation you can give and for supporting us again.

Thank you also and big love to Pip, Sam and Katie. xxxx
