At Salisbury Hospice, we understand the profound impact of a progressive, life-limiting illness—not only for those diagnosed but for their families and loved ones. We offer our patients compassionate, palliative and end of life care, providing comfort, and guidance at every step.

Story

So, 3 years ago I put up this page for the 2015 Tough Guy, and now, less than 24 hours before the start tomorrow, I saw too many pictures of this legendary event (no IT IS NOT  a “bit like Tough Mudder!”)  to not give it “one last go”. A full-on midlife crisis but I can’t afford a sports car. This will be much harder than usual because apart from a jog to the newsagent for Wine Gums this morning I haven’t run for 2 years. I’ll try my best, but if you choose to sponsor me please do so in the full knowledge that finishing will be an unexpected bonus this time.

See the details from 2015...you get the idea:

On the 32nd January (a.k.a 1st Feb) I will be running in the Winter Tough Guy 2015 in memory of Major Mike Parke and raising funds for Salisbury Hospice who helped Mike a great deal.

For those of you who don't know the story of the ultimate Tough Guy - Major Mike Parke - his incredible blog is here: http://mikeparke.co.uk/author/mikeparke/

Mike and his amazing wife Kady were good enough to support us in person for Tough Guy 2011, making a long journey North on a freezing day in January, and cheering us on from frozen and muddy fields despite Mike being in the middle of a course of chemotherapy. Mike posted a set of photos from the day here: http://mikeparke.co.uk/2011/02/02/tough-guy-photos/

Tough Guy isn't "another of those obstacle races", it's the original, the best, and the toughest by far, regarded by many as the world's hardest one-day endurance event.

Tough Guy isn't like your average 'Tough Mudder' or 'Spartan Race ' - it's regarded by many as the world’s most difficult assault course. It's a 15km run/swim/crawl/climb/tunnel all done in extreme freezing conditions without wetsuits or warm clothing. The Killing Field section alone has barbed wire, electric shocks, fire pits and ice pools often resulting in cuts, scrapes, burns, dehydration, hypothermia, acrophobia, claustrophobia, sprains, twists, and broken bones. Hypothermia is particularly common with hundreds of cases in a 'cold' year. Huge numbers fail to finish.
