Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I don't run.
I drink lager, eat too many crisps and takeaways.... and sit at a desk for work. If I bought one of those step counter watches it would probably switch itself off due to inactivity.
But, I can walk and therefore ( theoretically ) I CAN run. For the last few years of his life, my Dad couldn't and that was due to the impact of Multiple Sclerosis.
There are, of course, different variations of the illness but his resulted in his physical condition getting progressively worse. To watch someone physically deteriorate in that way wasn't nice. To be in that position would've been worse I'm sure.
MS left my Dad wheelchair bound and mostly house-bound. Treatments available now were not available then. It also left my mum living as his carer, whilst working and also raising two children. Dad is no longer with us and mum still carries the physical impact of that time. Reflecting on that time now, I admire the bravery, resilience and (sometimes!) humour they both showed to cope with the challenges. They worked through for more than a decade. I intend to use that as an inspiration to complete the marathon course as an out of shape Dad-bod runner in his 40's. Twenty Six miles to show my own children how far bravery and resilience can take you.
Training is underway and is not easy...everything appears to ache in your 40's? There will be no record time set by me, but I am determined that I will make it to the finish.
Any donation would be so welcome and will help the MS Society to continue their wonderful work with those people who have MS, and those who care for them. The help available for people with MS has changed massively and this is down to peoples donations.
