We support people living with HIV to ensure they live healthy lives

Story

We are a team of friends who are "Walking the Ribbon" for Terrence Higgins Trust for World AIDS Day 2020. We will walk together (wearing masks and proudly wearing our THT t-shirts and red ribbons) in a bubble of up to 6 (depending on the COVID regulations).

This year has been hard for everyone. It’s been especially hard for those living with HIV. The uncertainty that they have all felt is magnified for people already facing the daily challenges of living with a long-term condition.

Eugene, who many of you will know, has created a route of just under 30km around London in the shape of the World AIDS Day Red Ribbon.

On 29th November, we will be visiting 15 landmarks that are important in the history of HIV in London and the UK and learning about the
historical events that took place there.

We'll be filming a short video at each landmark to share the history of these locations on social media on World AIDS Day, 1st December.

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness.

Terrence Higgins Trust is the UK's largest HIV and sexual health charity. They support people living with HIV with a range of services and advocacy and are leading the fight to eradicate HIV transmission in the UK by 2030.

COVID-19 has hit the charity hard. Sources of funding have dried up while demands for services, including the THT Direct helpline (where
Eugene is a volunteer) have increased. During the first lockdown, THT provided extra hardship funding for people living with HIV facing financial difficulties and isolation due to the new pandemic. As a result of all of this, the charity is restructuring to ensure its survival.
